Vision

To cultivate a vibrant and inclusive community that celebrates Syrian heritage fosters cultural understanding, and strengthens connections among Syrian Americans and the broader San Diego community through shared traditions, arts, and social engagement.

Mission

The Syrian American Social Club of San Diego (SASCSD) aims to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Syria by organizing inclusive events, workshops, and initiatives that celebrate culture, art, music, cuisine, traditions, and history. Through fostering community connections and cultural exchange, the club seeks to create a welcoming space where Syrian American women, men, youth, and friends of Syria can unite, share experiences, and contribute to the cultural fabric of San Diego while remaining apolitical and respectful of all beliefs.

Purpose and Goal

The primary purpose of the SASCSD is to be a cornerstone of community life, offering members a unique space to establish an enriching environment where members can thrive, connect, and make a positive impact.

Our key goal is to set up a Club Center for the community to create a sense of belonging, facilitate social connections, and provide opportunities for community’s growth.

Upon obtaining non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, we will develop a detailed schedule, documents, and budget for the Club Center for achieving this milestone.

We anticipate finalizing an action plan for leasing space by the end of 2025.

These events will typically include guest speakers, panel discussions, and opportunities for members to present their work or projects.

Social Gatherings

These gatherings will intend to mark special events and promote a sense of community among members, typically including entertainment, recreational activities, and dining.

Workshops and Seminars

Workshops and seminars will provide learning opportunities in an engaging format. They cover a range of topics, from public speaking to personal interests such as art, folklore dabka, and gourmet cooking.

Speaker Sessions

These sessions can inspire members, provide valuable information, and stimulate intellectual discussions about Syria’s heritage and culture, as well as current social and community affairs. Topics may range from heritage and culture to fitness & wellness, and science.

Community Service and Philanthropy

Community service is a core component of the SASCSD club, emphasizing the importance of giving back. The services include:

Volunteer Opportunities

To foster a sense of social responsibility and collective achievement among members, the club will frequently organize volunteer activities. This will allow members to contribute their time and skills to charitable causes. These activities can include language classes, seniors’ assistance, or organizing and supporting cultural/community festivals.

Fundraising & Charitable Events

Fundraising campaigns and charitable events will help induce public awareness of the Club, and accelerate the creation of the new center, as well as bring members together for a common purpose. They will provide a meaningful way to make a tangible impact on our community while enjoying high-profile social events.

SASCSD’s Committees

To draw on the skills and talents of each member, we have been going through establishing standing committees to provide guidance to support the Club’s range of governance and effectively fulfill certain duties toward achieving the Club’s goals and ensuring its success. They include:

The Finance & Legal Committee

To run bookkeeping matters and present the financial statements at the board meetings. It will also oversee and manage certifications and legal matters.

Social Outreach / Service Committee

To foster a sense of community and belonging by organizing social events and activities that promote interaction and camaraderie among members and the community.

Membership Committee

To organize membership drives, set up social media campaigns, and conduct membership surveys to attract new members. It also helps to keep track of membership fees.

Cultural Committee

To prepare and conduct regular cultural events, presentations and lectures that help inspire intellectual discussions about Syria’s heritage, current social and community affairs.

Communication / PR Committee

To manage all printed and online publications, such as brochures, flyers, leaflets, and newsletters. This committee will also manage the website/social media platforms directly or oversee someone who does.

Fundraising Committee

To conduct and manage fundraising efforts. Fundraising committees also will seek out opportunities to attract corporate sponsors, philanthropists, large donors, grants, and endowments, as well as other ways of generating funds for the club.

Youth & Education Committee

To empower young individuals by providing a platform for engagement in community activities, advocating for their concerns, and ensuring that their voices and perspectives are integrated into the club’s decision-making process.

It will also plan and coordinate educational and sponsorship programs that aim to improve professional attributes and contribution within our community.
